Fahrenheit 451

I really enjoyed this book.  I somehow managed to not read it during high school and college.  I would hate to live somewhere that banned all books and sought them out to burn them (Obviously huh?)  I felt bad for Montag too.  He was so alone and unhappy and had no one he could turn to and talk about his fascination with the books and what was in them.  I wanted to cheer when he burned his chief because I really felt his desparation and "end of his rope" feelings.  I know that sounds harsh and mean but I really really really hated his chief.

This book really made his internal struggle something I could relate to and "feel".  I wanted so badly for things to work out for him and for him to find what he wanted and what would make him happy.
I thought it was a great book and have passed it on to my 14 year old.  She actually is the one who wanted me to buy it so she could read it.  I think she will enjoy it too.  I would not reccommend it to a child under the age of 13 or 14.  It deals with some serious issues such as Montag's wife's drug issue and just the general overall feel for the book.  I would say that probably 9th grade and up would enjoy it but even most kids in high school would not appreciate it and would probably not understand all the complications and feelings that Montag is dealing with.
